Daniel Vidot trades rugby league for the WWE

The former NRL star will become a “Samoan Ghost” in the WWE in the wake of his Broncos career.

28-year old retired Brisbane Broncos player Daniel Vidot is set to become a “Samoan Ghost”, confirming he has signed a three-year deal with the professional wrestling company. Vidot locked in the contract last October in Florida following his retirement from the Broncos in 2015, returning next month for training at the company’s performance centre. WWE executive Paul Levesque, also known as Triple H, confirmed the former star’s departure from the NRL, soon to report to WWE’s training base in Orlando, Florida, joining a flock of aspiring wrestlers. A fan of wrestling as a child, Vidot grew up in the “Attitude Era” and was always one to entertain. “It was very left of field and that suits me. I’ve always liked to put on a show and I felt like I found a new passion,” Vidot said. His “Samoan Ghost” character, which was developed in conjunction with the WWE, draws upon his proud Samoan heritage, following an example of iconic WWE star “The Rock”. “He’s kind of a Samoan ghost. I’m cheeky but I like to go into my corner and have my own space … so I think it’s going to be a very entertaining character,” Vidot said. “They first approached me last year but I was playing good football with the Broncos, so I didn’t take it seriously,” he said. “Then just recently they contacted me again and I’ve decided I’m going to have a crack at it.” During his time with the NRL Vidot played 100 first-grade games for a number of clubs: The Raiders, Dragons, Broncos and Titans; an entertainer then, and certainly an entertainer now.
