The Hawks’ star small-forward has surpassed the Demon’ Clayton Oliver to snag MVP of the Month for July – the first of any small-forward to win an MVP of the Month award following its 2017 inception. Breust’s 24.7 percent of the players’ vote eclipsed Oliver by just 1.1 percent, boasting 15 goals while averaging 17 disposals and four tackles. Beust will be among the likes of Steele Sidebottom, Jack Darling and Shaun Higgins as MVP of the Month winners, with his prowess on the field to be celebrated. 1982 AFLPA MVP winner Leigh Matthews commended the 27-year-old as having had his best season so far. “Luke Breust is arguably enjoying his best season in 2018, kicking 45 goals from 18 matches, with his ferocious tackling also being a highlight,” Matthews said. “He took his game to new heights in July, kicking 15 goals in four games to help Hawthorn’s push towards September.” Also nominated were Andrew Gaff, Dyson Heppell and last year’s Leigh Matthews Trophy winner Dustin Martin, with fellow teammate Max Gawn rounding out top three.
